AfterDark's Interview with Sherry Tooker

Happy Valentine’s Eve everyone! The AfterDark World is happy to share a cocktail moment from someone from Down Under. Author and blogger Ms. Sherry Tooker joins us for an interview.

1. Hi thank you for the opportunity to interview you. Why don’t you please tell us a little bit about yourself?

Thanks Ray, Thank you sooo much for this. Kind of makes me giggly that I got asked *blushes* ummm Ok I have to talk about me (eeps)…Well I guess the first thing I should say about myself is I’m kind of crazy. I like to do dance to the beat of my own drum and I’m a complete nerd. I’m a weather nut, planning on doing meteorology at Uni. I’m also a full time carer for my grandfather and when I’m not researching weather (did you know that there is roughly 45,000 thunderstorms a day around the earth?) or looking after granddad, I’m writing or reading or sketching. I really don’t know what else to say to be honest.

Damn, and I have only seen twelve thunder strikes, in my lifetime, on both The Empire State Building and The World Trade Center when I lived in New York.

2. How long have you been writing and when did you decide it was for you?

Oh jeeze umm I’ve been writing since I was able to pick up a pencil really. I knew in about 5th grade when I won my first every writing competition that I wanted to become an author. My winning story was about a seagull.

I’ve always wanted to be able to say, ‘I wrote that’ because having a book with your name on it is like a gold medal at the Olympics, only better. Plus everyone knows that I’m not going to the Olympics anytime soon.

3. Understandably, you have tattoos. How many tattoos do you have and is there one that you considered your favorite?

Oh my goodness, My tattoos. I have roughly about 20 (I’ve actually lost count…whoops) but I do plan on getting more. I just love the pain and vibration and wow does that sound kinky…anyways…My favorite would definitely have to be my black rose that wraps around from my big toe on my right foot right to just behind knee. It was one of the cheapest and is the biggest tattoo. I have never seen anyone else with one like it.

Hell yeah!

4. How does your friends and family feel about your writing?

I’m one of the lucky ones Ray. My family and friends LOVE the fact that I write and for the fact that I write Erotica as well as other genres there’s something in my writing for all of them. They’re always encouraging me which is amazingly awesome because I know a lot of people don’t have that force behind them.

5. Is there a particular genre that you haven’t touched, but would be interested in doing?

Hmmm that’s a tough one. I have written something in almost every genre but I would love to do something like a biography or a weather thesis book one day. To be honest though I think I’ll stick with the romance and erotica and all that sexy stuff because I love to write it. I have a very large imagination so not much if left out, if you catch my drift *winks*

LOL, I love your thinking...

6. As 2011 seemed to be a year for your breakthrough. What are your plans for the year 2012?

2012, oh boy. I plan on having more books accepted for submission, be part of anthology’s, take over the world? Ok maybe not that last one but honestly I would just like to be able to say in 2012 I really followed through and made something of myself. This is the year I can say Fuck you to everyone who has ever put me down, told me I’m a loser and that I’ll become nothing (screw you high school) 2012 is my year to say I did it. I would also like to get a boyfriend but that’s just a bonus *giggles* if anyone is interested please contact ….

I ain’t mad at you on that part about telling the world that looked down on you to go screw themselves, as far as boyfriend, if I knew someone who was single.

7. Tell us about your latest book Blood Lust?

My latest book, well the one that is to be released is a paranormal romance/erotica. To be honest it’s borderline on the two genre’s. It’s about a Vampire Lady Emelia and her kingdom of creatures and witches fighting for their honor and their lives against a king who hates ‘Abnormals’. Lady Emelia has a love affair with a mortal man Sir Caladen, the one man that could keep her grounded enough in the midst of war.
It’s one of those good vs Evil stories but it’s up to you to decide which is good and which is evil.

You caught my attention.

8. What inspired you to write your story Blood Lust?

I’ve always wanted to write a book with paranormal tendencies. Vampires are amazing to me. The way they move and strike their prey, the way they feed off another’s life form. I know sounds sadistic the way I talk about them but really, I just love anything with a story behind it.

9. Are there any upcoming projects that you are working on?

I have been working on a few shorts for Anthology’s I’m hoping to get accepted for and I’m working on another couple books as well. One is of the paranormal erotica genre and another is a love triangle. What can I say…I like drama in my stories haha.

10. Time for a cocktail moment: If there is a drink of your kind, what would it be? (alcoholic or non-alcoholic)

OOOOOH Seeing as I don’t drink very much anymore I don’t know. I’m always partial to Malibu and Pineapple. That always tickles my pickle. I’m a fruity kind of girl. Yes you can take that anyway you want but I like anything sweet, juicy and wow this is starting to get sexual again isn’t? I just can’t kick it.

11. Is there a trivial thing you would like your readers to know about you?

Hmmm a trivial thing. I have an obsession with Harry Potter. It started with the books, I’ve read them a million times then it came to the movies and I’ve watched them a million times and now I sketch Harry Potter, be it realism or cartoons.

12. What advice would you give to other writers, especially for those who are starting out?

My main advice would definitely be, don’t ever give up. You may get knocked back, you may have bad critiques but if you put your mind to it and keep at it you will achieve what you really want. I stuck at it and now I have my first book coming out and if I can do it then anyone can do it.

13. Where can people find you? (social network sites, blogs, websites, etc)

No thank you Ray, it means the world to me that you asked thank you. I would love to come back.

With an inked angel on her shoulder, Jacoby stalked the streets of Cussler. Her footsteps echoed through the darkness and her high heels clicked against the stone pathways. She was used to the bitter cold wind sweeping across her bare skin as she walked the five miles home every night. Her signature red dress swirled around her with every step as she darted in and out of shadows playing a sadistic game of hide and seek. Giggling to herself she continued to delve into the eerie corners of the street, not realising someone was watching her this night.

Drake peaked out from behind the wall of the local post office. His bright red eyes burning with desire as he watched her dance. He licked his lips hungrily at her perky form. His gaze stayed steady on her red and black hair toying with the street lamps, bouncing playfully under their light. Her pale tattooed skin glowed under the moonlight as she ducked into another shadow, hiding from her luminous pursuer. He chuckled to himself at how innocent she looked, grinning happily at her solo game.

Jacoby skipped closer to his position and he immediately ducked back into the ally way. He didn’t want to be seen by her yet. Humming to herself she skipped past the opening, unaware of what was lurking in the shadows. Drake stepped out behind her and watched her continue on into the cover of darkness, the street lights not following her same path. Slowly he traced her steps, her scent guiding him in the darkness. He could smell the blood that lingered just beneath her porcelain skin. It enticed him to pick up his pace. His mouth watered at the thought of how she would taste on his lips.

Drake suddenly stopped in his tracks coming face to face with the woman he had hungered for. She tilted her head to the side and put her hands on her curvaceous hips dramatically.

“Are you following me?” She asked abruptly. Drake stood there, pale faced and lost for words. His thin lips parted and closed over and over again as he tried to search for an answer to her question.

“I’ll take that as a yes then,” she said as she looked him over, her nose turning up at his clothing. It was old, much older than her and had tears in the fabric from years of wear. She took a step up and to him and poked him in the chest. Drake held his breath in fear that if he breathed in her in there would be no stopping his urges. He didn’t want to kill her just yet.

“You better not get any funny ideas mister. I work at a bar, I’m used to having to defend myself and if I have to kick your ass then it makes no difference to me,” She informed him. Jacoby nodded her head for emphasis before turning her back on the stranger and continuing to walk home.
